Since November, 2016, Laotian pupils are able to practice mathematics, take online examination, and connect with their peers nationwide through internet with the user-friendly application called Laolympic. It is the name of an online mathematics contest for pupil that based on the format of Violympic – a popular online contest developed by FPT Education.
Initially, Violympic is an online mathematics contest for Vietnamese pupils. After 9 years of development, Violympic has been creating a great value in helping millions of students to improve their knowledge, access to modern information technology, promoting the integration of ICT into teaching and learning programs. As continuance of their success in Vietnam, Laotian version of Violympic: Laolympic has launched to help transmit knowledge and enhance skills, enrich knowledge, build a strong intellectual foundation for the younger generation in this country.
On November, 15th 2016, the launching ceremony of the online contest was affiliated in Laos by The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and FPT Education. The event was organized with the presence of Laotian governors Mr. Vanhsay Noraseng – Head of Lao National Accreditation Bureau and Mr. Thongphiew Boudsadee – Minister’s Assistant of The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, Mrs. Truong Thanh Thanh – Social Responsibility Manager of FPT Corporation, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Director of Violympic Center, Mr. Cao Anh Son – General Director of Star Telecom, and more than 400 Laotian pupils.
According to the agreement signed, Violympic Center– a member of FPT Education will undertake the supply, deployment and maintenance process of the system and to ensure maximum flow of 100,000 simultaneous access account can join the contest. Violympic Center also responsible for compiling the contents and ensure the quality of exam questions, in coordination with The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports.
As the first version of the contest, the application allows Laotian secondary pupils take part in Laotian and mathematics in English from block 1 to block 12. In addition, the companion events will also be organized to bring the competition closer to the community, especially, the Laotian pupils who are passionate about mathematics. The goal of Laolympic is attracted at least 70% of pupils nationwide join in the contest in the first year.
Ms. Truong Thanh Thanh, Social Responsibility Manager of FPT Corporation expressed her hope to expand the coverage of the program to other nations in region: “ViOlympic has a long-term strategy to internationalize the contest. Each time the contest is launched in a new country is a great opportunity to learn and improve the implementation work. The expansion of Violympic, is a valuable chance to introduce Vietnamese educational program to other countries.”
When it comes to the partners of Laolympic, Unitel (Viettel Laos) will be responsible for providing servers, transmission lines, distribution systems downloads, customer support and accompany the launching event and the awards for Laolympic.
