FUNIX won Community Spirit Award at the Hackathon Google DevFest 2018

Overcoming through many strong competitors, “Smart City Monitoring” of FUNIX recently won the Community Spirit Award at the Hackathon Google DevFest 2018.

On the morning of December 2, 16 teams entered the final round of the Hackathon Google DevFest 2018 with the product presentation in front of 600 tech community members. This is a playground under the framework of the Demoday – GDG DevFest Mien Trung 2018.

The team from FUNiX joined the competition with “Smart City Monitoring”.  This is the idea of mentor Doan The Vinh with three students including Vo Tien Cong, Pham Khanh Huy and Nguyen Quoc Trung. The application aims to get data and present the index of dust level. If in danger, the application sends a notification to alert the user. In the future, users can monitor the level of dust pollution in each area on the phone.

FUNiX’s product won Community Spirit Award at the largest programming contest in Central – GDG DevFest MienTrung 2018.

At the Hackathon competition, applications are diversified such as smart parking solutions, election creation, application to book and take numbers in public administrations, traffic management applications, traffic lights and cameras management, application of tsunami warning and bad weather for fishermen, etc.

Each team competed in many hours of programming with detailed instructions from a team of over 30 mentors who were senior programmers. The members have eaten and coded together to complete the product in a short time. Especially, teams needed to learn the new programming language and apply immediately to the product to ensure the optimal. Throughout the programming period, teams could learn knowledge of technology through workshops on Firebase, Fluter, etc. as well as experience and skills through training sessions.

“The products of FUNiX members are highly applicable and feasible, helping Da Nang build a smart city in the future,” said Mr. Nguyen Duy Nghiêm, Director of Greenwich University (Vietnam) in Da Nang. “Specifically, the product might help the authorities know the dust level to balance the environment in each area and issue warnings for people to improve their quality of life”.

The event was organized by Danang Business Incubator (DNES) in collaboration with the Danang ICT Infrastructure Development (IID) and Google Developer Group MienTrung (GDG MienTrung). The theme of the playground is “Develop mobile applications or websites for building smart and civilized cities”. The contest has nearly 100 participants who are the programmer, IT students, etc.

In addition to connecting and developing the developer community in Da Nang in particular and the central region in general, the competition is expected to help technology enthusiasts to develop creative ideas, understand the spirit of teamwork, improve multi-dimensional thinking, objective feedback and communication with customers.

FUNiX the online university is a member unit under FPT Education, officially launched on 13th December, 2015 and opened its first course on 20 th November 2015.

Starting with bachelor’s degree and IT certificates, FUNiX has been expanding its education scope to other areas such as economics, architecture, music and so on by using collaboration model with universities and educational institutes in Vietnam and all around the world.

Teaching and learning activities are organized and managed with a completely new method called FUNiX Way. This method is expected to increase the rate of completing online courses and improve graduating quality of students. FUNiX is collaborating with other businesses and organization to apply FUNiX Way to internal training to help boost the efficiency and cut down on costs.
