FPT students Volunteer for the ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp (APT JSO)

On July 11’s morning, the Ministry of Science and Technology collaborated with the ASEAN + 3 Center for Gifted Science (ACGS) to organize the Sixth ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp (APT JSO-6) for teens from July 11-15 with the theme “Renewable Energy for Life” at FPT University in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

53 students from FPT Education Organization participated in volunteering for this event. Especially, the ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp is one of the most meaningful activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology – Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh said that this event encourages passion, creativity and creates a playground for students to experience teamwork skills, develop ideas and share research experiences with friends through real-world activities.

In addition to the examinations, Deputy Minister Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh also put forward the expectation that this activity will contribute to the introduction of Vietnamese culture to international friends.

This year’s the ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp has made the attention because of its participation from more than 180 delegates, including over 80 young people from ASEAN + 3 countries and Sweden. These are students aged 13-15 who love to study academic science, have experience in science competitions, English skills and good teamwork.

Student groups will carry out scientific research, develop and demonstrate projects around the theme “Renewable Energy for Life”. The best presentations will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze medals from the Organizing Committee. At the same time, all students attending the program receive a certificate from the the ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey. In addition, teachers also have interactive activities, exchange of scientific aptitude experiences; attend teacher conferences on “Promoting STEM for students through renewable energy applications.”

In addition to scientific research, the youth from ASEAN + 3 countries and Sweden also have the opportunity to visit FPT Education Organization, other projects of Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and cultural exchange activities in Hanoi.

The ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp (APT JSO) is one of the annual activities of the ASEAN + 3 Center for Gifted Science (ACGS).

The ASEAN plus Three Junior Science Odyssey Camp is a prominent activity for the youth from ASEAN countries expatriates to promote and develop young talents, creating a broad scientific and technological community that contributes to seek and provide high quality human resources to countries in the region in the future.

The first APT JSO Camp was held in 2012 in Darussalam, Brunei with the theme “Science and the Dynamics of Tropical Rainforest”.

The second APT JSO Camp was held in 2013 under the theme “Science Research on Seaboard and Wetland”.

The third APT JSO Camp was held in Thailand in 2014 with the theme “Innovative Agriculture for Global Sustainability”.

The fourth APT JSO Camp was held in 2015 in Indonesia with the theme “Biodiversity towards Innovative, Smart & Green Society”.

The fifth APT JSO Camp was held in 2016 in the Philippines with the theme “Climate Change and the Rainforest”.

The sixth APT JSO Camp is held in 2017 in Vietnam with the theme “Renewable Energy for Life” under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology, chaired by Deputy Minister, Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh, in collaboration with FPT Education.
