The Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee recently approved the construction of an Education – Artificial Intelligence Complex with investment of VND4.5 trillion ($192.6 million) from FPT on May 8.
The 38-ha complex, in the provincial capital Quy Nhon, is expected to be built over the course of the 2019-2025 period, in which the first phase will be implemented in 2019-2021 on an area of 6 ha. After coming into operation, the complex will train high-tech scientific human resources, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), for the south-central region in particular and the whole country in general, who will then contribute to sending new Vietnamese technology to the world.
Speaking at the ceremony for the approval, Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, said the province hopes to create a new image by establishing science and technology as a foundation of development. The approval is part of the provincial target to become an AI center of the world, and the decision came after only five hours of discussions between the two parties. “The idea from FPT of turning Quy Nhon into a global AI center is very creative and Binh Dinh has the conditions necessary for it to become reality,” said Mr. Dung.
Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT Chairman, said the province’s focus on investing in science and technology was an important factor in FPT deciding to build the complex in Quy Nhon. The corporation hopes to create an environment for young students to learn about software and AI and help them become skilled personnel ready for Industry 4.0.
FPT is the only tech company in Vietnam to invest in building large-scale universities and software parks in Vietnam’s four key economic areas: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Can Tho.
