There is no doubt that the coronavirus crisis causes many issues, but it also creates tremendous opportunities for innovation. Taking these challenges, FPT Education Global prepares to launch online degree and virtual internship programs for international students from all over the world, helping them keep pursuing their higher education and gaining new and exciting experiences with practical skills throughout online courses.
With the coronavirus spreading rapidly across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, countries have taken swift and decisive actions to mitigate the development of a full-blown pandemic through learning online and working from home. The sudden closure of schools and university campuses and the delayed mobility programs across Vietnam and elsewhere greatly affect both institutions and students.
How is COVID-19 affecting global education?
The coronavirus pandemic has had a big impact on education worldwide, leading to the widespread closures of schools and universities. According to UNESCO monitor, more than 160 countries have implemented nationwide closures, impacting nearly 90% of the world’s student population.
Many universities’ mobility programs have been postponed or cancelled. Foreign students on shuttered university campuses in the world are being told to return home and are rushing to secure flights before travel shutdowns, affecting the learning process of students. The majority of schools and universities have relied on online teaching as a stop-gap while face-to-face teaching is suspended, with no clear signal as to when they will be reopened. Consequently, the coronavirus outbreak is crashing global markets and influencing everything from air travel, the educational industry to local businesses, making substantial impact in lost revenues.
Will the digital platforms not just be a temporary solution but a trend of the future?
There are strong trends that online study and remote working are the trends of future.
A research from the University of Southern California about the future of education mentioned that “Future educators will have to face the fact that students will need (and want) to learn in a flexible, personalized format – for some, this may mean having a more technology-focused classrooms”. We cannot have a flexible and personalized learning method without online education. Technology is also changing so fast that without online learning, people cannot catch up with new knowledge in time.
American Psychological Association, in a recent research, finds that between 2005 and 2015, the number of U.S employees who work remotely increased by 115%. In the current globalized world, it is not difficult to find members from different countries in a team working together through an online platform. The development of technology enables people to easily move beyond their borders and working more flexibly than ever.

The COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated the importance of building resilience to face various threats. The pandemic is also a chance to remind of the skills everyone needs in this unpredictable world such as informed decision making, creative problem solving, and perhaps above all, adaptability.
As a result of the crisis, COVID-19 has become a catalyst for educational institutions worldwide to search for innovative solutions, digital solutions, in a relatively short period of time and certainly feasible in a long-term period as such an alternative way for education.
