Mr. Hoang Nam Tien emphasized that the company always has the environment and opportunity; it is important that each individual dares to commit himself/herself to raise his/her income and change his or her own life then.
Mr. Tien said that he was very fond of talking to Fresher (newcomers to FPT Software) about making money. A person asked: “My salary is current VND 7 million, two more years might be VND 10 million, how to change that?”, Chairman of FPT Software talked in the sharing session at ME FSOFT 2017. “I told them that they should go to work without payments for a few months and learn C++, then the salary would be VND 15 million and they would have another way. However, not many can do it”, Mr. Tien shrugged his shoulders.
In another question, FPT Software Chairman wants to know how young co-workers spend their days on Facebook. The answer is 50% of the time spent on mobile is for Facebook and Messenger. “This means that one day, all of you, and maybe-we-all, are spending three to five hours using these services.”
“So what is reality?”, “Commander” of FPT Software wondered and then replied: “It seems we want a lot of things, which live virtually on Facebook, then balance between work and family, or others, but not spending enough time, dedication and strength for these things”.
Afterward, FPT Software Chairman told his story when he was a child. In his childhood, he lived in Cau Go Street. Each time the plane took off from Gia Lam airport, like other children, Mr. Tien also ran up to the 5th floor, looking up at the sky and wishing one day to become a pilot.
“At that time, if he wanted to be a pilot, he would have to go into the army but I did not want to be like that,” Mr. Tien said. Until 2007, when he recognized to be old enough and not young anymore, Mr. Tien decided to learn how to drive a plane. “The feeling I had for the first time, I still remembered: pushing the needle, putting the aircraft up to the required speed and flying into the air”. Pilot Tien described and shared: “If we have dreams, wishes and we are determined, whatever we will do it”.
Continuing the story, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien revealed the book “Alchemist” in his collection which he “puts it under the pillow on his bed”. The paragraph in the book wrote: “When you dedicate with your whole heart, put all your energy to do something, it seems that the fairies, Buddhas and saints will come and support us. If that work is not finished, it means that our belief does not have enough strength yet”, “he said.
Mr. Tien said that he was very touched by Mr. Nam’s sharing, especially the words: “Do not ask what the country has done for you, but ask what we have done for our country today.” “Temporarily stop talking about our beloved fatherland”; I want to ask a closer question: “What did we really do for ourselves?“
The question of who shared made Mr. Tien look back the time when he became Chairman of FPT Software in 2011. “When watching the earnings of FPT Software’s management, I was really amazed at how low it was. At that time, before doing any things for the country, what to do for FPT or FPT Software, my first responsibility was to change staff’ incomes, I thought. To do this thing, the turnover of $100 million in 2013 that I said right after entering FPT Software was not accidental”, Mr. Tien said.
Taking the old story to say the current status, Chairman of FPT Software stressed, colleagues should not waste their time if they worked in FPT Software forever without changing their personal life. “Do not think about what to do for your beloved country, or how to change FPT Software, the first thing to do is that you need to have enough abilities to take care of your wife and children properly, caring for your family kindly,” Mr. Tien shared with a slight but his sure tone. “And if we continue to spend 3 hours, 5 hours on Facebook, or Messenger, do not dream of work or customers.”
Previously, sharing about keeping personnel, according to Mr. Tien, the company must always create policies, systems and good environment for all those who wish to develop, have higher income and to be successful. “I think keeping people by salary is the worst way, because there are always other companies willing to pay higher salaries. Instead, he recommended that companies should keep their people by creating opportunities and good working environment”.
Keeping people by creating opportunities means, if the company has not paid high salaries as a certain company today, it must be pointed out that, in the short term, 2 years, 3 years, if you continue to work here, I will have the opportunity to develop your career, your level, or your work … at a different level.
Similarly, keeping people by generating a good working environment with professionalism is not always easy in Vietnam. Next, the environment must be democratic, creative, freedom, funny, even beautiful. This is not the first criteria, but it is a lot of criteria to create a working environment.
Management Escape (ME), a way of meeting with management team of the FSOFT Officers Club, is composed of approximately 160 managers from around the world from July 19 to July 23 in Mui Ne, Binh Thuan. The event aims to review the whole business situation of FPT Software after the first 6 months, determine the position and objectives; ME 2017 will also discuss and plan for the remaining half of the year, aiming at achieving $1 billion in revenue by 2020 (1B2020).
After the meetings and discussions, all the officers took part in a training called: The only easy day was yesterday, inspired by the SEAL elite forces of the United States Navy with great accomplishments and always completing tasks seemingly impossible.
